Dakhla Oasis
Dakhla is the farthest oasis out of Cairo and is considered one of Egypt's most beautiful Oases; it lies to the Northwest of Kharga and is also about 310 km to the Southeast of Farafra. 

Dakhla sits in a depression surrounded by pink cliffs. There are about 30,000 acres of cultivated land. Most of its 70,000 or so residents are farmers who constantly fight the battle of the dunes that threaten their fields and orchards. The fields and gardens are filled mostly with mulberry trees, date palms, figs and other citrus fruits. Dakhla’s prehistoric cemeteries, old Kingdom villages, and Islamic fortress towns, come as a welcome change. Recent discoveries tell us that Dakhla Oasis has been populated for over 10, 000 years. 

Dakhla has been known as al-Wah, the inner Oasis. Periods Islamic Era (641-1798) British Occupation (1882-1954); Today There are sixteen villages in Dakhla Oasis. Mut, named after the ancient Egyptian goddess of the Theban triad, is the capital. Agriculture is the main industry in Dakhla and its olives, dates, onions, and dried fruit are exported to the Nile Valley The People There is evidence to suggest that Dakhla has been inhabited since prehistory and maybe as long as 200,000 years ago.
